Top 3 ways to make Home workouts a habit

Let’s face it: Maintaining a home fitness regimen is easier said than done. At first glance, it seems convenient and straightforward. But, most people who dedicate themselves to the process barely last longer than a week.

Today, we’ll go over three actionable tactics you can use to make home workouts a habit.

1. Start Small

Many people set out big goals from the start. They buy all sorts of fitness equipment, dedicate themselves to a strenuous program, and go on a restrictive diet.

This is not ideal because it takes time to build habits. The best way to go about it is to start small. Make your tasks so easy, you can’t say no. That way, you’ll be much more likely to follow through, stay consistent, and gain momentum.

For example, dedicate yourself to ten minutes of daily exercise with resistance bands

2. Make It Incredibly Easy to Start

Whether we realize it or not, our environment can significantly impact our behaviors and choices. We often fall for patterns of negative behaviors because we make it easy for ourselves to do so.

The good news is, this can also work for positive behaviors. If you want to do home workouts work out at home, make it incredibly convenient to start. For example, prepare your exercise clothes and put your fitness gear in the middle of the room. Then, as you wake up, you’ll have visual reminders to exercise.

You can also prepare things in the morning before you leave for work, and have a visual reminder when you get back home in the evening.

3. Create a Schedule

If you wake up every day with the thought of, “I hope I find the time to exercise today,” expect not to.

The truth is, making a schedule is one powerful tactic we can use to become more consistent with our workouts. More specifically, we should clarify three things – where the activity will take place, when it will occur, and what it will involve.

For example:

“I will do 15 minutes of bodyweight exercises at home every evening after work, starting at 7 pm.”

This is simple but covers all three – the when, where, and what.

By doing that, you’re much more likely to make working out at home a habit because you take the guesswork out of the equation. Instead of going about your training vaguely, you have a concrete plan that tells you exactly what you need to do and when.
